The Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company (ASCC) is an equal employment opportunity irrigation company that services approximately 62,000 acres of land in eastern Idaho. Water is diverted out of the Snake River near Firth and delivered through190 miles of main and lateral canals that end just west of American Falls. Our company specializes in a fleet of equipment, machinery and up-to-date technology to ensure the most efficient and effective delivery of water to the Shareholders of the company.

Job Summary:
The General Manager is an appointed position who reports directly to a nine-member Board of Directors. The Board Members are elected by the Shareholders of the Company. The General Manager will be responsible for the administration and implementation of all the Company By-laws, Policies and Procedures while under the immediate direction and guidance from the Board of Directors. The GM will direct and coordinate the activities of all Company employees. The GM shall represent the Company at various work-related meetings and must demonstrate the ability to lead, manage and understand the complexities of managing a water delivery system. The GM is expected to function with independence of action in supervising employees, problem solving, public relations, and in developing specific goals, and procedures to maintain a smooth day-to-day operation. The GM must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to address issues calmly, attentively and proactively. The GM shall abide by all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations and must be knowledgeable with Idaho water law.

Typical Work Examples:
  • Oversees, organizes, implements and evaluates all activities related to the storage, transmission, and distribution of the water supply and maintenance of the system, facilities and equipment
  • Attends all meetings of the Board and produces monthly summary to Board detailing current and future activities of the Company, water outlook and other reports deemed necessary to keep the Board well-informed and engaged
  • Attends water or business-related meetings or any other meeting as requested by the Board
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting to the Board an annual proposed budget
  • Responsible for delegating various responsibilities amongst employees to increase productivity of the Company
  • Acts as purchasing agent for items needed to operate the system such as herbicides, machinery, fuel, construction materials and supplies
  • Performs all other tasks necessary to ensure the Company's ability to deliver water efficiently and effectively to Shareholders of the Company.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience managing, leading and supervising in related work field
  • Degree or extensive experience in business administration, accounting, agriculture, public administration, water resources or any closely related field
  • Experience with Idaho water law
  • Experience with Word, Excel, QuickBooks, ArcGIS, SCADA, STORM
  •         OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to successfully perform the duties of the GM position
