Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company is an equal opportunity irrigation company that services approximately 62,000 acres of land in eastern Idaho. We divert water out of the Snake River near Firth and have over 172 miles of canals and laterals that ends west of American Falls. Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company is a progressive company that is dedicated to find ways to deliver water more efficiently. Job Summary:

Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company is searching for a new General Manager. The General Manager shall be responsible for supervising the activities of the Company under the immediate direction and control of the Board of Directors.

Job Responsibilities (from the Company By Laws):

Distribute the available water amongst those entitled thereto in proportion to their respective rights and in accordance with the rules and regulations provided by the Board of Directors.

Keep the canals and laterals and all property of the Company in proper repair and maintenance as directed by the Board of Directors.

Properly and safely care for the property of the Company during the recess of the Board of Directors.

Execute all orders and instructions of the Board of Directors either themself or through the subordinate officers and employees.

Employ such assistants and other employees as the Board may authorize.

Make a monthly written report to the Board of Directors and an annual report to the Stockholders and such other reports as may be demanded, and at all times to keep the Board of Directors fully informed concerning all business of the Corporation.

Make recommendations to the Board and to the Stockholders when deemed advisable.

Approve all bills and payrolls before payment is made. 

Attend water meetings deemed important to the Aberdeen Springfield Canal system.

Communicate effectively with shareholders and the public.



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Must have experience and knowledge related to management.


Must be a proven problem solver.


Experience with personnel management and public finance.


Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, in writing and via email.


Must maintain productive working relationships with the shareholders of Aberdeen-Springfield Canal Company and its government, business, and industry partners and contacts. Experience  working with State and Federal government is strongly preferred.


Must have experience dealing with disputes.


Must display proactive work habits and manage time efficiently.


Must show proven ability to work independently and manage time efficiently. - I’m not so sure this one need to be in here, it’s stated in the job description.


Knowledge of Idaho water law.


Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access)


Ability to work in the field during adverse weather conditions



Minimum Qualifications:


High School Diploma or equivalent


Management Experience


Drivers License


Prefered Qualifications:


Bachelor’s Degree


Knowledge and understanding of surface and ground water irrigation operations.


Experience or knowledge of basic construction activities related to canal maintenance, including experience estimating scope of work.




Experience utilizing accounting software, ArcGIS, Storm, SCADA and Adobe


Experience working with State and Federal Government.
